Howland Green on GOLD'n GRO 8-8-8+4S
Howland Green, a fifty year member of the Ornamental Nursery business, is a strong proponent of the "Greening of America" movement via his "Carbon to Chlorophyll' tree production and planting program. Howland has engaged Land Trust organizations, large property owners and private family real estate trusts in a large-scale tree planting agenda that has received world-wide recognition.
Howland Green earned his secondary school education at Hebron Academy, a small private school an hour north of Portland Maine. Howland studied environmental sciences which he continued to study at the University of Rhode Island along with Landscape Architecture and Botany. Howland received a degree in Resource Development and Landscape Architecture in the 1980's and went on to expand the Nursery and landscape design/construction business he started while an undergraduate at URI. At age 24 Howland was running his own wholesale/retail nursery operation and a high end Landscape construction company that employed dozens of workers. |
After selling the Garden center in the 1980's Howland founded a specialized Landscape Design and Construction business that catered to environmentally conscious clients. He founded Holly Ridge Nursery doing business with dozens of nursery growers and horticultural brokers across the country. Howland sold the business in 2006 and commenced Greenwood Growers as a specialized evergreen cloning operation. 'Carbon to Chlorophyll' became the company mission and Howland Green spent over a decade developing Deer resistant hybrids of various evergreen species. Greenwood produces thousands of Deer resistant evergreens every year. Howland donates his trees to land trusts and sells them to property owners who all strongly believe that the only real solution to mitigating atmospheric CO2 is through planting high oxygen producing tree species.
Greenwood Growers is a unique Carbon Negative business venture. The company uses 100% recyclable or repurposed products in its tree production agenda. Greenwood started using GOLD'n GRO Triple 8 fertilizers back in the late 90's and continues to use it today as an exclusive fertilizer product. Greenwood has 'tried' numerous commercial liquid and granular fertilizer products and none compare to GOLD'n GRO Triple 8.
Itronic's GOLD'n GRO Triple 8 is applied to tens of thousands of cultivated, container grown trees on a scheduled feeding program through overhead and drip irrigation. As such Greenwood has a virtually zero labor expense in their feeding program.
Greenwood Growers has utilized all of the commercially available dry or prilled fertilizer products including those specifically catering to container plant production. The two greatest disadvantages of using bagged, dry fertilizers is that they must be hand-applied to each container and must be applied twice per year. If a container should blow over in a storm the fertilizer must be re-applied.
Howland Green has been quoted in saying that dry fertilization in a modern container growing operation is pre-historic in comparison to liquid application through irrigation. The benefits of using GG Triple 8 are healthier plants, greener and balanced color, greater root and shoot production and increased floral prominence. GG raised plants get to market a full season earlier than trees and shrubs produced by dry product feeding.
GG Triple 8 raised trees and shrubs do not contend with disease or heartiness issues. Greenwood Growers is state inspected on an annual basis. Inspectors have commented that Greenwood Growers evergreens are extremely healthy and completely disease free year after year. Greenwood does not use pesticides because we do not need them.
Fertigation with GG Triple 8 saves over 50% of those costs directly associated with feeding and husbandry. This is an undisputed fact.
Annual tree propagation numbers exceed ten thousand specimens per year. Greenwood ulalizes standard mist propagation techniques with one additional component that cuts a full year off growing time to market. We add a minute 'dose' of GG Triple 8 to our mist water through a simple proportioning device linked to our misting system. This technique has demonstrably decreased rooting time and adds no cost to conventional propagation.
Simply said: Trees and shrubs propagated and grown in conjunction with a GG Triple 8 production and feeding program get to market faster and are significantly more profitable than trees and shrubs fed with dry or prilled fertilizer products.
